BMX bike riding is not only a good sport to exercise and ‘stay young’ it is loads of fun too! Whether it is BMX street or park riding, BMX racing or BMX freestyle, bike riding is a sure way to enjoy the outdoors. It is a sport for those who enjoy riding bikes and are willing to take a few physical risks and give it go.
In order to begin BMX riding, a BMX bike must be purchased and choosing the right DK bike is important. You need to consider the BMX frame and parts to ensure you get a suitable bike for your needs. Doing some research before you purchase is always a good idea. Other bike gear that you will need include a helmet which covers the face, long sleeve shirts and pants, gloves as well as elbow and knee pads. Once you have purchased these items you are ready to choose your riding location.
There are a few different locations you can choose to ride your BMX bike. Many enjoy Street BMX riding while others Park BMX riding. Street BMX riding involves riding on or jumping over every day things such a stairs, rails, building or even trees. BMX parks however, are usually made of concrete, metal or wood and tend to contain pools and bowls. No matter where you choose to ride, practice is the key to ensure that you get the most out of your DK Bicycle and eventually be able to perform some tricks.
BMX Freestyle is basically trick riding where complicated manoeuvres are performed on the land or in the air. Of course there are some risks with BMX freestyle so it is important that you wear your protective BMX bike gear. It is best to start slow and as you build your bike riding skills gradually attempt more complicated tricks.
So if you are keen to give BMX bike riding a go, check out DK Bicycles website for the latest BMX frame and parts products as well as bike racing reports.

LATEST NEWS
Welcome To The Team: Barry Nobles
Time for big news: DK is proud to announce a new member of the Pro team.
With tons of buzz & talk on the forums, there has been a handful of speculation that Barry Nobles might be riding for DK. The rumors are true. Barry Nobles has found a new home with DK Bicycles in 2012.
“I can’t think of another rider who is a more appropriate pick for the DK race team. Barry reminds me of the good ol’ days when Robbie Miranda and Neal Wood ruled the tracks and trails everywhere. He has the best attitude, tons of moto style, and has always done a really great job representing his sponsors. DK is more of a family than a team, so when a new rider comes aboard it's usually for the continuation of their career. I’m proud to welcome Barry Nobles to the DK family.” – Trevor Gay, Marketing Manager/TM, DK Bicycles

Ronnie Dugdell storms home to win Queensland State Titles...
DK factory rider Ronnie Dugdell has put the last 18 months of injuries behind him to claim the #1 spot in the heavily contested Elite Men’s field at the Queensland State titles held over the weekend in sunny Bundaberg, after having numerous operations on his elbow and also a broken collar bone Ronnie has been putting in big efforts to be back at the top of his game.
With Ronnie looking relaxed in the pits pumping tunes thru his Skullcandy UPROCK headphones and sipping back on Bioflex Recovery it was time to get the main show on the road.
When the gate dropped it was a two horse race between Ronnie Dugdell and Joel Clark, with Joel having the inside line coming into the corner he come out first and held Ronnie high on the berm , and with that Darryn Goodwin slotted into 3rd, Ronnie made a dive into turn 2 but Joel still had the advantage heading down the 3rd straight, this is where Ronnie made his move carrying a lot of speed thru turn 3 and running Joel down in what would have been the closest finishes in some time. When the dust had settled it was Ronnie who had won by a fraction of a second to claim the number 1 spot.
In other news from the state titles DK rider Cherie Simpson finished 4th in Elite Woman, Mitch Hoad (12 boys) and Team Manager Corey Stafford (30+elite masters) both made finals but had big crashes finishing at the back of the pack.

Team Rider Blake Moore Race Report....Penrith Super Nats
Penrith Open Supernats!!!!!
On the 3rd September the Penrith Panthers bmx club put on a huge event last night. Racing started at around 4 as they recently installed lights to their track, it was the perfect race meeting to test them out, along with fire works after the finals.
The pro open field was stacked with some really fast riders from around NSW. In my motos I got a 3rd, 4th and a 3rd.
I also raced my age class winning all motos and the final.
It was now semi-final time and from what I can remember it was, Luke Madill, Tom Hubert, myself, DK Team Member Dan Willis, Micheal Jobson, Ian lancaster, Micheal Young and Nathan Harlow in order crossing the line. I was really happy with how i rode up towards the finals.
Before the Finals the local Penrith cheer group put on a show in the middle of track, and they were pretty good.
It was a long wait to the final as we were at the end. In the final was Luke Madill, Tom Hubert, Dan Willis, Myself, Ian Docherty, Alex Lloyd, Leigh Darrel and Jordan Lecher. I had a pretty good gate from lane 6 sitting in around 5-6 down the first straight, then i got a little shut down by Ian docherty and DK Team Mate Dan Willis that forced me to be spat out the back, i had a really good run down the second straight and went in 7 but my third straight was pretty sketchy after being held out by Leigh Darrel. It wasnt the best lap but Luke Madill just got the win followed by Tom Hubert, Ian docherty, Alex Lloyd, Dan Willis, Leigh Darrel, Myself and Jordan Lecher. All in all it was a good event and some really good racing.
Id just like to thank DK Bicycles Australia, Loosekid industries, Skullcandy Australia, Goodlife Health Clubs, and Bioflex Nutrition.

Anthony Dean's Latest blog...

Anthony Dean Blog from the UCI Supercross in London...
After a long awaited week and the big build up, the Olympic test event has finally arrived. Riders had the chance to walk the track and all I can say is its massive, from corner jumps to hips to a box jump. The track is by far the most intimidating yet. Group A practice were up first with all the top dogs set to test out the fresh built Olympic track, I was looking forward to putting my new DK professional to the test.
Practice went well for all, not to many crashes and in all the track flows quite well. For myself I felt great out there a little nervous at the start but as practice went on I felt more and more confident and comfortable on the new bike. Love it. Tomorrow is another 40 min practice session and then the Time Trials begin. Be sure to check back tomorrow and I will have an update to let you all now how it went.
Thanks for reading,
Anthony

Cherie Simpson Wins Australian 4X Womans Series.......
A massive congrats goes out to Cherie for winning the 2011 Australian 4X Womans Series, read her race report on what went down....
Toowoomba MTB 4x Race Report.
On the weekend I went up to Toowoomba to race the 4x MTB National Round. This was a double header weekend, having both rounds 3 and 4 on one weekend. I was very excited as I haven't raced my mountain bike for months and Toowoomba 4x track was my favourite track.
Arriving at the track, it was nice and sunny with a bit of breeze. We had practice for a few hours with racing starting at 1pm. It took a little while to get used to the rough track with all the bumps, logs, ruts, rocks and different race lines scattered throughout the track. Much different to the average BMX track. Now it was time for racing. Filled with a few nerves, the gate dropped and I was off out in front into the first corner, but to my surprise an experienced downhill rider slipped past me on the inside corner. I managed to pass her down the main straight elbows and bars knocking together until the downhiller came off second best. The next two motos were the same, with both of us swapping the lead throughout the race. Final time came around and I knew I had to ride smart and protect my lines to stop the downhiller sneaking past me. The gate dropped and I shot to the front once again. This time I took the inside corners all the way, sticking my elbows out and blocking her race lines. I came across the finish line first, happy that I had ridden a smart race. I was now the MTB national series leader for 4x elite women.
After Saturdays racing, minor changes were made to the track to create new race lines and make some areas more challenging to get through. Sunday morning was a little chilly with a nice strong breeze, making the track all that much more challenging. In practice I knew I had to improve my cornering around the small inside corners. I practiced the corners over and over again until I had them fast and smooth. Racing came, I was feeling a little more confident about the track and the corners, but still a little nervous, knowing I had to race the downhiller again. This time I stayed out in front all the way down the track, winning all my motos and coming out to win the final. I was very pleased with myself, having improved my racing tactics from the day before and coming out with another win.
Saturday and Sunday’s win resulted in me taking out the MTB National Series for 4x elite women. I was stoked with the result, receiving a trophy, jersey and a nice little cheque for my effort, also getting covered in champagne at presentation. So overall it was a fantastic weekend.
Cheers Cherie

New Exo Chains now in stock....

Hinterland Shootout Rd 2
Round 2 of the South Queensland shootout series was held North of Brisbane at the Hinterland BMX track. It was a very very hot day, sitting sweating before you even went for a ride.
Running through 5 motos my results were 1st, 2nd, 1st, 1st, 1st, which I was very please with. During the half time break, the shootout series hold a little challenge event called "the Gauntlet". This is where they randomly pick 8 riders from one age class and the they have to do a timed gate start on the BMX tronic gate. This time it was the Pro Womens turn to run "the Gauntlet". We each hadm one practice gate before have one good run where the fastest person wins $30 and a t-shirt donated by the local bike shop. This was my first time in this event so I was excited. I was the last to go on the gate and I WON! Yay an extra $30 in my pocket was a good feeling! It was my shout for dinner that night on the way home.
Next stop is at Nerang BMX club, close to home on the 12th February.
Cherie

DK Rider Cherie Simpson's Queensland State Titles Race Report
The BMX QLD State Championships were held in "sunny" Mackay 22nd - 26th September 2010. I was excited to race as I had heard that he track was riding smooth and fast.
Monday morning before the sun had even begun to rise we were in the car on our way up to Mackay.......it rained the whole way.......we arrived in Mackay (still raining) in the afternoon and headed to our accommodation. Due the constant rain and some flooding, practice threw the week was cancelled to try and keep the track in a rideable condition. We were eventually able to ride the track wednesday afternoon as the rain cleared for the day, leting the track to dry out a bit. The track was holding up very well, with only being a bit soft.
Saturday morning - Get your race face on. This was the first National Champbikx/Probikx round of 2010/11 and everyone was....WET. It rained the whole morning. The track was still holding its shape well only being slippery and very muddy. The surrounding around the track was turning into and mud pool with some areas being ankle deep. Racing was a challange. some riders road through the mud with no effort and some other riders struggled. Not having a good day of racing myself, I was hopeful Sunday was going to be a better day.
Waking up Sunday morning I wsa very pleased to see that it had stopped raining. The track wasn't slippery and muddy....just boggy. New day, new track challange. This racing was going to be survival of the fittest and strongest. Having good weather, the pushed the motos before any rain could come. As the day went on, the sun came out and the track was drying out. Waiting for my final I was ready to defend my title and was feeling good. In my final were Kelly Percy, Krystal Cranfeild, Camile Pestwidge a local rider and me. I came out the gate strong, leading into the first corner. Holding my line and the lead I headed down the second straight corner, I could feel Kelly hot on my heels. Heading down the third straight I tried my hardest and put everything I had left in my tank to keep infront of Kelly, as she is a strong rider. She passed me towards the end of the straight, shutting me down into the last corner and sprinted for home. I had to settle for second place.
The rest of the DK team finished up well. With Mitch Hoad finishing 1st in 11 boys, Corey Stafford finishing 5th in 30 + masters, Brock Murray finishing 7th in Elite men, Ronnie Dugdell finishing 8th in Elite men and a 2nd for me in Elite women, DK had a pretty good weekend over all.

Team DK headed to the Australian Titles last week and dominated the event taking home 4 number 1 plates and also being voted TEAM of the year.
THURSDAY 6th - It all started on Thursday when in the PROBIXS rounds DK rider Cherie Simpson took out the overall win in ELITE WOMAN with a 1st place on the day giving her the overall for the series, not to be out done Matt Dunsworth also claimed the overall title in Junior Elite Men with a 2nd place on the day also giving him the overall series win.
FRIDAY 7th - The youngest member of the squad Mitch Hoad had a great day on Friday claiming the number 2 plate in 11 boys, Mitch had a fantastic day and after fighting of 60+ other riders he was happy with the 2 plate.
SATURDAY 8th - With most of the squad racing on Saturday there was bound to be some great results and Team DK didn't disappoint taking out some major titles,
Blake Moore in the 15 boys has been training so hard towards these Nationals, and the guy they call mighty mouse smashed thru his moto's and into the semi's, but a crash down the first straight ended any chances of that #1 plate, I'm sure Blake will come back stronger and faster next year I would even put money on it.
Ryan Van Vugt claimed his consecutive #1 plate with a massive win to stamp his claim on the 16 boys class, once again Ryan proved his class winning every race he was in, all i can say the Junior Elite Boys better watch out next year when Ryan moves up a class.
Lacey Oliver pushed her way up to claim the number 3 spot in Junior Elite Woman, riding thru a bad wrist Lacey showed some guts to get that far,
Alex Ulyate in his first Nationals in Junior Elite Men couldn't of ended any better making the main and claiming the number 5 spot, watch out for this guy next nationals.
Matt Dunsworth has been riding well all year and for him not to walk away with the #1 plate would be a disappointment for the local Victorian, but true to his form Matt rode well all day and stood up on the poduim at the end of the day in that number 1 spot, with Matt now moving up in to Elite Men it is going to be tough but if anyone can do it i'm sure he will.
Cherie Simpson finally did it by claiming her 1st National Title in Elite Woman after putting in a stella performance in the final by over taking her rival into the last corner and crossing the finish line with her head held high, Cherie has been chasing that title for a few years so was great to see her on top of the podium with her novalty cheque.
Brock Murray in Elite Men was chasing that #1 title but a few mishaps in his quarter killed any possiblity of that, but if anyone can bounce back from that and chase it next year is Brock.
To top of the weekend Team DK / Loose Kid Industries / Rockstar Energy Drinks was also voted Team of the year at the BMX awards, so was a great way to finish of an amazing week for DK bicycles and it's team riders

The team here at DK would like to wish the DK Bicycles/Loosekid Industries/Rockstar Bmx Team the best of luck at the upcoming Australian BMX titles in Shepparton, Victoria which is being held all of next week. All the riders have been training hard leading up to this event and with it being held on a fairly new track should make some interesting racing....check here next week to see updates thru out the week.

DK shredder Dave Girsch has just won a dirt jump comp in Sydney over the weekend, big congrats from the team at DK and look forward to seeing him get more massive results from here.

Our newest member to the team Cherie Simpson came away with the win in Elite Woman, and not to be out done Lacey Oliver picked up a 2nd in Junior Elite Woman, Alex Ulyate had a great day aswell coming away with a Q4 in his first ride in Junior Elite men 20" and a win in Elite Men Cruiser which was a great effort considering he is only 17.
